Case Study

Custom Actuator Leads to Improved Production Efficiency for Kitchen Appliance Manufacturer

CLIENT BACKGROUND:

The client specializes in kitchen appliances.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Type:
NEMA 23 Linear Actuator

Stroke Length:
~6 inches

Load Capacity:
~200lbs @ ~1 inch/sec

Power Supply/Voltage:
4A / 2.8V

Mounting Options:
Mounting plate along one side

CHALLENGE:

The customer was in early development, exploring alternatives for a Z-axis application after trying competitive products. In addition, they required improved anti-backlash.

CUSTOM SOLUTION:

Throughout development, the client tested various stock units, including NEMA 17 and NEMA 23 actuators. Ultimately, they chose NEMA 23 to give them a safety factor.

After preliminary testing the customer communicated a need for an AB nut inside our captive actuator. In order to accommodate we took a standard external actuator and built a custom housing with some linear guidance. While this differed from typical construction, we met their request quickly, leading to the production of the first 30 units.

Customizations for Leadscrew Assembly Included:

• 1000 Line Encoder for Feedback

• AB Nut

• Custom Housing

RESULTS:

The custom solution not only met the client’s specific technical demands but also delivered exceptional results. Key results included:

PERFORMANCE
OUTCOMES
