Case Study
Optimizing Durability and Performance:
A Custom Actuator for Hot Water
Mixing Valve Applications
CLIENT BACKGROUND:
The client is a leader in water management solutions.
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Type:
Kaptive NEMA 23 ActuatorStroke Length:
1.75 inchesLoad Capacity:
>120 kgSpeed:
0.6 inches per secondEnvironmental Conditions:
Hot, humid industrial environmentPower Supply/Voltage: 48V
Mounting Options:

Low to Medium
CHALLENGE:
The client faced significant challenges in an industrial environment where extreme heat from hot water pipes threatened the integrity of standard components. They required a custom actuator that could endure these high temperatures while providing a high force output. Additionally, the client needed a specialized encoder cover, as a standard plastic option would not provide the protection needed in such an environment. Finally, they sought a reliable method for power-off operation to ensure safety and functionality.
CUSTOM SOLUTION:
We collaborated closely with the client throughout the year, holding numerous on-site and virtual meetings to refine the design for this
Kaptive NEMA 23 Actuator.
Unique Customizations included:
• Custom connectors
• Custom stroke length
• Aluminum encoder cover
• High PV polymer nut
• Power-off actuation features
• High Temperature Winding Insulation
RESULTS:
The client was pleased to acknowledge that our actuator outperformed the competition in response time, lead time, price, and performance. Key results were:
EFFICIENCY IMPROVEMENTS
The solution surpassed the competitor in both lifespan and force output.
OPERATIONAL COST SAVINGS
The actuator was a more affordable solution that the competitor’s, while offering superior performance.
DOWNTIME REDUCTION
The long-life high PV polymer nut reduced maintenance needs while enhancing durability.
